My Story

I am a registered nurse and exercise physiologist with 30 years of professional experience. I have worked in various settings, including in-patient care, education, wellness, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, and community health. In addition, as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), I have experience teaching diabetes self-management education classes, leading support groups, and serving as a program supervisor.

My career began with hospital nursing on a medical/surgical unit. I learned a lot and received great satisfaction treating individuals at some of the most vulnerable times in their lives. However, I often felt frustrated and upset because the in-patient environment is not always favorable to fully educating patients about disease prevention and management. Unfortunately, I would often see the same patients return to the hospital 3-6 months later with complications. It was heartbreaking seeing individuals’ quality of life suffer due to potentially preventable complications.

With this in mind, I returned to school and received a Master’s degree in Community and Public Health Nursing which gave me an elevated  understanding of disease prevention and management. This experience combined with my nursing and exercise physiology degrees, allows me to better serve my clients in a wholistic way.

It is my pleasure to use my experiences in Community and Public Health Nursing to provide comprehensive education related to disease prevention and management. I find great joy in empowering individuals to manage their chronic conditions, live life with quality, and thrive.
